HP SMART ARRAY CONTROLLER FOR DRIVE ENCLOSURES SOFTWARE
It was just backup crap for another server, but proof is that the HP card and raid software are pretty rotten for recovery. That enables the controller that enables the firmware that caches.

I have four 8TB HDs connected to one of the internal ports with those hard drives inside the chassis of the server - absolutely no way those got bumped or swapped order - that array is gone too.
HP SMART ARRAY CONTROLLER FOR DRIVE ENCLOSURES HOW TO
If anyone knows how to rebuild the array config without losing data - I know which drive was dedicated as my hotspare and which were part of the array - but I feel it's useless to continue to use this HP P822 in my setup now since it is not trust worthy. There doesn't even seem to be a way to "backup" your raid settings config to restore them either - even low end highpoint raid cards have that! Argh. So lesson learned - don't try to use an HP raid card with non-HP hard drives since rebooting your server might not recognize your array's and you lose 100TB of data with no recovery options. I have four HP812 cards, a P212 card, and all have working cache - yet none could seem to determine my array configuration. Support also said I could use any other HP raid card to detect the array configuration if it was the cache that was bad. :)Īlso if you disconnect the cache, at least on the P822 card, the card says it will not work until the cache module is inserted - so why did support tell me to try the card with the cache module? But there was no further troubleshooting. The "engineer" did tell me to try disconnecting the cache as according to their web guides (which I already found before chat) say to replace the cache module and contact support if there is an issue for further troubleshooting.
HP SMART ARRAY CONTROLLER FOR DRIVE ENCLOSURES PROFESSIONAL
Two hours of my life for a chat session to learn that the HP SSA does not have a way to create the array without initializing/erasing the data like most professional raid cards have. I'm never buying HP again - and our whole shop is HP right now. They went above and beyond insulting me and finding ways to be unhelpful when I just had a few basic questions for an out of warranty product. HP Support rudely informed me that the raid configuration is stored in the RIS part of the HPE hard drives and not the controller, and if I'm using non-HPE drives, they don't even know how that works then. The self diagnostics on the board seem to be ok other than it stating the critical error message about the unsupported configuration. I flashed the card to the latest available BIOS when I got it a few months back but it's an older card and 2018 was the latest BIOS (8.32C). Rescanned with HP SSA and it properly identifies all the drives, but I guess it cannot figure out how the array was configured previously - what steps could I take? Anyone walked down this road before? Then I tried power cycling the disk shelf enclosure. I tried unplugging/replugging the data cable from both the enclosure and the server. When I first went into HP SSA it only saw 13 of my 15 HDs. I was playing around with cables behind the disk shelf yesterday, but all was well before I rebooted the server just a bit ago. I purchased the card and shelf a few months back and it's been rock solid. You may reconfigure the controller, but the existing configuration and data will be overwritten and potentially lost. The HP Smart Storage Administrator software has a critical status message:ħ20 Smart Array P822 in Slot 1 has an unsupported configuration.

Also, feel free to contact any of the mods if you wish to discuss the rules.Īnyone know how to get around this without losing all data? I rebooted and my single array didn't show up.
